Throughout history, people have needed basic necessities to survive. By following the day and night, the seasons, and the sky, that is, by observing nature, he has tended to find solutions to sustain his own life. However, they identified the events taking place in nature with a god and created myths. While doing all this, they benefited from astrology. The origin of the word mythology is the concepts of "mythos" and "logos". Mythos (mythos); In Greek, “discourse, story, narrated event” and logos means “word/speech”. Mythology refers to the legends told orally.
Astrology, which reveals the mathematics of the sky in the journey of human search and meaning, gives us clues with the help of many symbols when considered together with mythology. The mythological symbols in our birth charts and the situations they represent tell us a lot. The equivalents of the Sun, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury in mythology are briefly stated as follows:
SUN- APOLLO
The main sun god in Greek mythology is Helios. Helios was later replaced by Apollo. Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo, son of Zeus and Leto. It is known that he uses a silver bow arrow, plays the lyre, which is a stringed instrument, teaches people about curing diseases and can make divination. Since the Sun represents the self and ego in natal charts, the aspects of the Sun with other planets help us to interpret the positive or negative features of these aspects in the light of mythological stories.
MOON- ARTEMIS
There are multiple moon goddesses in Greek mythology. Selene is one of them. The other is Artemis, the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis, a virgin goddess of wildlife, wields arrows like her brother. He uses these arrows not only for hunting but also for punishing people. She is known as Diana in Roman mythology. The phases of the Moon, which represents mother and emotions in astrology, are very important. The dark goddess Hecate represents the last quarter of the phases of the Moon. Hecate is known as a goddess who wanders in the twilight of the Moon, seeking sinister herbs and doing evil with them.
SATURN - KRONOS
Saturn is referred to by Kronos in Greek mythology and by his own name in Roman mythology. Kronos, the son of Gaia and Uronos, realized his mother's plan to kill her husband and ended his life by cutting off his father's balls. He would later suffer the same end by his own son and be killed by Zeus. Kronos is derived from the Greek word “Chronos” meaning time. Saturn is considered the planet of karma. So here is the principle of “you reap what you sow”. Birth charts show difficulties, limitations, and responsibilities.
JUPITER- ZEUS
Jupiter, known as Zeus in Greek mythology, was referred to as Jupiter in Roman mythology. Zeus, the son of Kronos and Rhea, is the most powerful god in Greek mythology. He is considered the god of the sky, lightning, law, and laws. As his father Kronos swallowed his children before Zeus, Zeus wanted to swallow him when he was born, but his wife Rhea made Kronos swallow a stone. Rhea sends Zeus to another place, and when Zeus grows up, he helps his mother eliminate Kronos. He pulls out his siblings in his father's womb. Zeus, who lived on Mount Olympos, watched everything from here and provided justice and security as the father of the gods. In natal charts, Jupiter gives the effect of growth and expansion to its location.
MERCURY- HERMES
Mercury, known as Hermes in Greek mythology, has the same name in Roman mythology. Hermes, the son of Maia and Zeus, is known as the messenger god. He is also a god known for his tricks, cunning, and eloquence. He travels both in the sky and on the earth, acting as a messenger between these areas. Mercury gives features such as analytical thinking and reasoning ability in natal charts. In negative situations, it can show the negative of them.
MARS - ARES
Mars appears as Ares, the god of war in Greek mythology. The son of Hera and Zeus, Ares represents the wild side of war. He is disliked because he is a god who constantly creates negativity and fights. He has a sister Eris (fights) in wars. From his union with Aphrodite, Phobos (fear), Deimos (horror), and Harmonia (harmony) are born. He always keeps Phobos and Deimos with him. In Roman mythology, it is referred to as Mars. Unlike Greek mythology, in Roman mythology, Mars is the symbol of heroism and the art of war and has an important place. Mars shows the person's struggle for survival and how he uses his physical energy.
VENUS- APHRODITE
Venus, which is mentioned as Aphrodite in Greek mythology, is mentioned as Venus in Roman mythology. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. There are two different views on his birth. The first of these is stated in the work of Hesiod as the emergence of Aphrodite from the white foams in the sea after Gaia and Uranos' son Kronos cut off his father's balls and threw them into the sea. Homer, on the other hand, says that Aphrodite was from Dione, who was united with Zeus. In natal charts, Venus represents sexuality, attractiveness, art, and pleasure.
URANUS- URANOS
Uranus is Uranus in Greek mythology. Gaia (mother earth) creates Uranus as her mate. Uranus means sky. Gaia later reunites with Uranos and they have children with many arms and heads. Uranus detests his children and sends them to the ground. Gaia can't stand this situation any longer, and after her plan, her son Kronos cuts off his father's balls and kills Uranus. In natal charts, Uranus represents sudden events, unusualness, unexpected situations, and differences.
NEPTUN - POSEIDON
Neptune, known as Poseidon in Greek mythology, is the son of Kronos and Rhea. It represents the seas and earthquakes. Known as Neptune in Roman mythology. His most important weapon is his trident. Earthquakes are considered to occur when this pitchfork hits the ground. Neptune, which is considered a symbol of blur and fog, actually symbolizes pure perception and clarity. It also gives the collective unconscious, spirituality, and creativity in art.
While the equivalents of planets and asteroids in mythology, each event, and archetype in myths guide us in our perception of life, they also give us many clues to interpret a natal chart. It is possible to encounter a symbol of these myths in ancient cities in many regions of Turkey, in museums, or in historical artifacts from ancient times in the city you live in. Likewise, these symbols, which appear in various parts of the world, are of great benefit to us in perceiving events as we become aware of them and know the legends behind them. I wish that our love of research will always continue so that our awareness will increase and we will be one step closer to ourselves.
With my love and goodwill,
